ABOUT

The history of Folgarelli’s Market traces back to Detroit in the 1940s. Boniface “Fox” Folgarelli was working with Lombardi Foods, a classic market in the Old World Italian style. He had grown up in the industry and spent his entire career with Lombardi until his retirement in 1976.

After retirement, Fox and his wife, Marge moved to Traverse City in order to be close to their daughter, Donna, and her family. Despite enjoying the beauties of Traverse City and the joys of his grandchildren, Fox missed the work he left back in Detroit. Since Traverse City lacked an old world market, Fox and Marge decided to fill that void. With the help of Donna’s family, they formed Folgarelli’s Market and Wine Shop in 1978.

Originally modeled after Lombardi’s traditional market feel, Folgarelli’s has gone through several changes since its founding but still retains the old world charm that has made it Northern Michigan’s cornerstone of old world, gourmet food, and wine. It still remains a family business in its third generation of family ownership.

Over their almost 40 year history they have learned a thing or two about the art of sandwich making. When they opened they started with only 7 very traditional sandwiches. Now they boast a menu of over 45 different sandwich options and daily specials that will make your mouth water. They use only the finest quality ingredients on their sandwiches. All of three of their bread offerings are made by local bakeries and delicious in there own right. Take a minute to look over the menu and see what all the fuss is about.

FOOD FOR EVERY OCCASION

Loosen the necktie and their food is happy to rub shoulders with your work friends at a more casual event. But don’t worry, despite its gourmet nature, their food is completely comfortable throwing on an old pair of jeans and a faded shirt for a relaxed, informal party. Whatever your level of formality, prepping meals and appetizers is a lot of work.
